Wind and Weather and Water and Writing and Weirdness

So the effects of this spring’s weather have been interesting.

First, we’ve of course had a shitload of rain, same as what happened last spring. That means our front yard ditch is loaded down with….crawdads. Yeah. Crawdads. Hey, we live in the country. We get all kinds of interesting flora and fauna ’round here.

Biker Dude was out wandering the front yard the other night and said there were about 30 or 40 of these crawling out of their night holes:

Funny looking critters, aren’t they? They really like that wet mud. A. Lot. We need to get our granddaughter over here and let her go crawdad exploring at night. She’ll enjoy that. :giggle:

Yesterday we went to the lake for Biker Dude’s company picnic. The water level on the lake is up. A. Lot.

Couldn’t even find the boat ramp. It was under water. Probably why there weren’t many boats out on the water yesterday. Plus the winds blowing about 40mph made it really choppy out there. Ugh.

Wind wind wind. We took a bike ride this morning out for breakfast. Riding on a motorcycle in strong winds is not my idea of a good time. When the wind grabs hold of your helmet and it feels like it’s going to lift your head clean off your neck? So not fun.

The wind really could stop blowing so damn hard. Seriously. Thanks.

Writing went really well this past week. I set out to do 5,000 words a day with the goal of 20K a week until the book is done (omg it’s a tough goal!). I’m about 2500 words shy of hitting that goal for the week, so now that NASCAR is on, I’ve got the laptop on my lap in front of the tv and I intend to get those 2500 words so I can make my goal for the week. I’ll let you know how I do.

Oh, and I chopped all my hair off on Friday. It was growing out long and it looked REALLY BAD. Now it’s cute. I have a hair appointment on Tuesday so I’ll let my hairdresser fix the choppy parts, but considering I did it myself, it doesn’t suck. Heh. :sasmokin:

Edited to Add: Before and After Hair Photos:

Before – Long, stringy, no shape. Bleh. Not to mention every time the wind blew, I ended up with my hair in my mouth. :gah: This is Biker Dude and me at the rodeo a few weeks ago.

After – After I’d reached the end of my rope. Or my hair. Heh.

Fabulous Friday

Is it just me, or has it been a really long damn week?

Making great progress on RIDING ON INSTINCT. Even despite Biker Dude taking two days vacation to work outside on lawn and garden things, and me wanting to be outside with him, so that ate into my writing just a bit. But it was warm and sunny and honestly how could I resist the lure of summer? Plus we’re doing some massive overhauling of the front yard and I wanted to help out. Still, I managed 13K for the first four days this week. Now I have to push it because my goal is 20K a week until the book is done.

I started a tomato plant yesterday in a container. Never done a container tomato plant before, so we’ll see how that goes. I know it’s a little late. That seems to be my motto this year. A little late. Ugh. But I got a great looking plant that already has a few tomatoes on it. Hopefully it’ll yield for me. (I LOVE homegrown tomatoes).

Tomorrow is Biker Dude’s annual company picnic. They fry fish, then everyone else brings a side or a dessert, so I have to bring something. I think I’ll make zucchini bread. Another project for me to do today. I haven’t made zucchini bread in a really long time and I found a great recipe. I really do enjoy cooking and baking. I just don’t tend to do a lot of it because by the time I get to that point in the day my brain and body are tired. This week, though, I was determined to cook and I did. I made two new recipes and they turned out great. I made a steak salad, then a chicken waldorf salad and both were really good. (Cooking while on deadline is exhausting…just sayin’ :giggle: )

Hopefully those 40mph winds we’ve been having the past couple days are over now. I’d hate to blow away at the picnic tomorrow.

Any fun plans for the weekend?

So tonight

Well late this afternoon actually. I mowed the back yard while Biker Dude went to get gas for the mower (we have an acre and a half and a riding mower. Yee ha!). I call it the ‘tanning machine’. I ride, the sun tans me.

However we have about six very tall, very sharp pine trees out back. Trying to mow around these suckers is not fun. The tall white pines aren’t too bad, but the shorter ones have these sticky ‘thingies’ that are just obnoxious and painful.

The trees assaulted me. I didn’t even notice I was bleeding until I was well clear of the trees.

Bastards. I have a chainsaw and know how to use it. Don’t mess with me. (Okay, I dont’ know how to use the chainsaw, but Biker Dude does :giggle: ).

So anyway, after cleaning up we decided to take a ride on the bike to get dinner (fighting off woman eating pine trees works up an appetite).

We went to Pizza Hut. Pizza Hut used to have this great dinner for two meal deal. Like around $17 for a medium pizza, salad bar and drinks for two. Sweet. They don’t offer the meal deals anymore. Everything is separate.

Thirty bucks it cost for a medium pizza, two salad bars and two sodas. Holy shit! No wonder the place was practically empty on a Friday night. We’ll be taking our pizza appetite somewhere else in the future. You suck, Pizza Hut.

The ride home on the bike was heaven. It was dark, temps had cooled off, and we took the back roads home. As we rounded a curve, there right at the side of the road was a deer. She was utterly still, just watching us as we crept by (Biker Dude slowed to make sure she wasn’t going to dart into the road). She was so pretty.

And the fireflies were out in the woods, like little fairie lighting our way home.

It was a beautiful night.

And yes, Angie, we wore our helmets. ;;)
