Yeah, I’m Going For Random Here

It’s raining here today. Power went off for an hour this morning. Thunder, lightning, dark skies and tons of rain. Very cool. And hey, laptop still works without power, so I was productive during that hour. Yay for me!

I’m struggling a bit with this plotline for this novella. Probably overthinking it and I should just write the damn thing and let the story tell itself. Hopefully all the kinks (plot kinks, not sex kinks, just to be clear :giggle: ) should work themselves out. Hopefully.

I’m consumed with television lately. There are tons of new shows on and old shows resuming and my butt is in front of the t.v. every single night. I’m loving My Own Worst Enemy and The Mentalist. Those are my two favorites. I also found Life, which apparently I missed last season. And of course I still love CSI (Vegas, not sunglasses or NY), and Grey’s Anatomy. Still hooked on Survivor, I’ve started watching The Amazing Race, and since reality tv is always my friend, Americas Next Top Model and I watched the end of Project Runway last week (what did you think of who won?).

Fortunately Biker Dude has been dragging my ass off the couch to take a walk every night so said ass does not become one with the sofa and spread into a large glob of fat (now there’s a mental visual for y’all). Let me tell ya, my joints are stiff from spending all day at the computer writing and all night planted like a potato on the couch. Clearly I need exercise. But it’s going to get cold soon. I hate walking in the cold and wind. Brrrr.

I finished typing in revisions and copyedits for Riding on Instinct. Got a couple tweaks yesterday from my Bantam editor for Taken By Sin, but otherwise she loved the revisions I did. Yay! Always nice when an editor likes what you do to a book.

That’s all I’ve got right now. I can’t believe it’s Wednesday already. It is Wednesday, isn’t it?

The Weekend

So I was sitting at my kitchen table drinking coffee around 8:30 Saturday morning when the doorbell rang.

It was Fedex. With revisions from Berkley for RIDING ON INSTINCT, the third book in my Wild Riders series. It’s set to release in April, 2009.

Not exactly the way I planned to spend my weekend, but I dug in and worked my revisions. Now they’re done!

I also played with a couple recipes from Pioneer Woman’s website (omg…best site ever for just about anything. Stories about ranching life, incredible pictures, and cooking!)

I made Spicy Shrimp and Chocolate Sheet Cake. So not low calorie food, by the way. But omg…yumm!

The only other break I had from those wicked revisions was to watch my Oklahoma Sooners beat the Kansas Jayhawks in college football. And what the hell, Missouri? You’re supposed to be awesome. You sucked against Texas, dammit. I REALLY wanted Texas to get beat. (I see Ohio St moved up in the polls a couple spots, Limecello :giggle: )

So with revisions out of the way, this week I’ll be working on my novella, which is also part of the Wild Riders series.

What’s on your agenda this week?

And don’t forget we’re down to our last couple days of the Writeminded Readers Appreciation Party! The grand prize drawing will be held mid week! Still time to play. :boobie:

Fiddling With History

Hey look, no promo today (I know you’re thrilled to hear that :giggle: )

So we’re watching Life On Mars, one of the new shows of the season. Haven’t decided whether I’m going to stick with it or not yet. The premise is this NY cop in 2008 is hit by a car just as he’s chasing a serial killer who’s after his girlfriend, who’s also a cop. And when he wakes up, he’s in 1973 NY, 35 years earlier. And he’s the same person, still a cop, has the badge and the job and everything.

Okay, cool premise. But he doesn’t know whether he’s in a coma and just dreaming all this, whether he’s time traveled, or living in some alternate universe or what. Easy way for the producers to escape the ‘you’ve time traveled and everything you touch could possibly irrevocably change history’ thing.

But still, I can’t get past the changing history and being able to manipulate history thing. I mean, he wakes up in 1973 and the first things he sees are the twin towers of the World Trade Center standing high above the NY skyline. Whoa. Talk about an opportunity there. And what about wars and politics, and potential murders, not to mention the opportunity to make yourself stinkin’ rich down the road?

My husband and I got into this long discussion after the first show about what could happen if someone were propelled back in time. If you paid any attention at all to current events and history, you’d have a motherlode of information with which to change the course of events and to make yourself pretty damn wealthy. But then you also take the risk of manipulating, and possibly changing, the future.

I’m wondering if this series is going to go there at all, make this guy think at all that if he’s time traveled every person he saves in these shows might be someone that should have died, and because he was there they didn’t. What can saving one person’s life do to change the course of events?

Interesting thoughts to ponder if you let your mind wander about what could change if someone who ‘knew’ things could go back in time, huh?
