This ‘n That

A few items:

Operation Auction, the auction for our romance community member Fatin, is loaded with some amazing items. If you want to see some of the incredible things going up for bid when the auction starts on March 27th, check it out here and start making your list. Something for everyone!

And speaking of awesome, editor Angela James will be teaching her online self-editing workshop, “Before You Hit Send”. It’s a three week bootcamp of some of the best self-editing I’ve ever had. I’ve taken the course twice. I’ve been writing a long time, and believe me, no matter how good you think you are at editing your own book, you can sometimes forget the basics, or no matter how much you think you know, you might be missing some things that will make your book better. I highly recommend this detailed, informative workshop. Click here for details and registration.

I had a great conversation with my Berkley editor yesterday about the Play-by-Play sports series. We finalized a title for the hockey book which will now be known as TAKING A SHOT. This will be Jenna’s book for those who are wondering. TAKING A SHOT will release in February, 2012. Yay! We also discussed the fourth book in the series, at least as far as which sport I’ll be doing. But I’ll leave you guessing on that part for now. Yes, I’m a tease that way.

The DABWAHA tournament voting is up and running! Even if you didn’t register for the DABWAHA tournament, you can join in the fun and get your vote on. New books to vote on every 12 hours, so get to voting!

It’s the DABWAHA!

If you follow college basketball at all, you know what March Madness is. It’s the college tournament where the best of college basketball play each other.

The DABWHA is a tournament of books, and it’s organized every year by Dear Author’s Jane and Smart Bitches Sarah, who put a hella lot of work into putting it together.

Check out the tournament site here. There’s even a page on how to play here. You can put your brackets together from the list of nominees, choose the books you think will win, vote in each round, and oh yeah people. There are prizes. Lots and lots of prizes. Check out the prizes here. Not only is there a poster of The Perfect Play being given away as one of the prizes, but also to random entrants, too! So yo definitely want to enter. 😉

Oh, and one of my novellas might be nominated this year, but don’t let that sway you when you make your selections (really I’m lying–let it sway you–pick NO STRINGS ATTACHED and vote like crazy for it 😉 ). Go, have fun. Enter, and start trash talking about your picks! 😉

Operation Auction!

As I mentioned on the blog yesterday, my wonderful friend Fatin lost her husband in a tragic shooting.

Fatin has been an integral part of the romance community for years – she owns and runs the RR@H Novel Thoughts and Book Talk blog, is an administrator of the WriteMinded loop, an author assistant and a tireless advocate for romance novels. She is also a friend to many in this community. On Tuesday, March 8th, she lost her husband in a senseless act of violence, leaving her alone with four children. You can read more about the tragedy here

The romance community would like to rally around her. Therefore, we will be holding auctions on ebay the last week of March. More information on exact days and donations will follow.

If you are an editor / agent / author / Or anyone else for that matter and would like to donate something for the auction – such as a critique, mentoring, lunches at RT or RWA, swag, signed books, etc., please contact me at jaciATjaciburtonDOTcom or use the contact form on my website with your donation items. Your help is greatly appreciated! Some examples of auction items might be signed books, baskets of fun stuff, critiques, lunches, mentoring, ARCs, pitch help, offers of specialty services like graphics design, etc. The totally awesome Larissa Ione asked readers recently what type of items they’d most like to bid on, so you might find this list helpful
