How Does My Garden Grow?

Hey, here’s my vegetable and herb garden for this summer!

garden

Okay, it’s not so much a garden yet as it is a giant pile of dirt waiting for me to plant stuff in it.

Biker Dude built it for me last fall. Last week we added soil. It’s ready for vegetables and herbs. I’m very excited about this project. I’ve planted tomatoes in a garden before (i.e. whatever chunk of handy dirt was available in the yard), but never a dedicated veggie garden. So I’m anxious to see how this project will turn out this year.

Just have to wait for the last chance of frost. I’m thinking by this weekend we should be safe to plant so it’ll be veggie shopping time!

I’m thinking tomatoes, of course. Beans, potatoes, maybe carrots and lettuce. I’ll have to give some thought to what and how much I want to put in there. Definitely going to add some herbs in there too. This is my first big vegetable garden so I don’t want to go overboard and have it be unmanageable.

Sarah over at her Whipped Out blog post was talking about starting her garden and had some great links. I especially liked this one with various pre planned gardens. Even if you don’t use the pre planned gardens, it helps to give you ideas.

Do you all plant a vegetable garden each year? If so, what do you grow?

Edited To Add: Forgot to mention that Sarah and I are having a Summer Garden-Off. We’re competing for the best garden. At stake is manicures at RWA Nationals in Nashville. Winner has to pay. This is a BIG DEAL, people! :giggle: Sarah is also hosting something fun at the Whipped Out blog for gardeners, with prizes, so head on over if you’re going to be starting your own summer garden and join in!
