See My Shame

My first drafts are heinous, the worst piece of shit writing ever. But when I’m editing them they at least provide a source of amusement.

Like this sentence, full of one hell of an epic dangling participle and a whopper of a typo:

Her abdomen quivered at the touch of his warm lips to her flesh, remembered what it felt like to have his moth down there

No, really. Don’t thank me. :giggle:

The Weekend & The Week Ahead

Had a whoa damn and busy weekend, and I’m glad it’s Monday. You know you’ve had an exhausting weekend when you’re glad it’s a Monday. :giggle:

Saturday was all about running errands and shopping. I’m giving a baby shower this coming weekend for someone I consider practically a daughter. She and her husband are very close to me. Her husband is #1 son’s best friend and he actually lived with us for awhile back when they were teens, so I consider him family. And he started dating his now wife when he was living at my house. This is their third baby (a boy), expected in June, and I’m really excited for them. And I just have to say…baby showers are a hell of a lot of work. Gah. Anyway, lots of shopping for that, and I have to clean house this week. Bleh.

Sunday, of course, was Mother’s Day. We got up at the ass crack of dawn to shower and get ready because we took my mother-in-law to breakfast. Spent some time with her yesterday, which is always fun because my mother-in-law, who’s 86, is just the sweetest woman on the planet. Then #1 son and my granddauhter took Biker Dude and I to see Star Trek (daughter in law had to work. Doesn’t that suck to have to work on Mother’s Day?).

Star Trek was AWESOME! Loved it, loved it, loved it. They stayed true to the original Star Trek canon, and yet completely turned it on its head at the same time. I can’t say enough positive things about this movie and the new direction JJ Abrams has taken the Star Trek franchise, other than to say I’m still thinking about the movie today and I can’t wait for the next one. Wheeeee!!!!

After that we came back to the house, hung out, had burgers, then we collapsed. I’m tellin’ ya, exhausting weekend.

This week I intend to write write and write. Have a book on deadline and I need to write and write hard because it’s due June 1st. Which means I not only have to have the book finished by then, but edited so I can turn it in. Feeling the pressure.

Did I mention I’m giving a baby shower this weekend? Anyone want to come clean my house for me? Because it’s a total wreck. Not sure when I’m going to find time to do the cleaning. Maybe the cleaning fairies will show up. :gah:

Lauren Dane’s RELENTLESS Releases Today! And a contest!

My awesome friend Lauren Dane’s new book, RELENTLESS, releases today!
relentless-revised200x300

In this erotic universe, passion knows no rank…

Since the first settlers came through the portals from Earth, fifteen Families have held the rule of the Federated Universes in their hands. There’s never been a better time than now to throw out the old and usher in a new order. Give voice to the unranked. Abbie Haws has spent her life battling the system. A fighter, she’s always been too busy and driven to pay much attention to finding love. But when she’s granted audience with Roman Lyons, the head of House Lyons, who stands for everything she hates, her instant attraction catches Abbie off-guard…

It’s common knowledge that the Known Universe revolves around Ravena—and that Ravena revolves around Roman Lyons, bred to lead since birth. Roman dreads his meeting with a defiant—if stunning—rabble-rouser. But, sometimes, headstrong personalities in the conference room make for hot-and-heavy, guilty trysts in private….

Now, Abbie will show Roman the parts of her world he wouldn’t otherwise get to see. And he’ll give her a glimpse of the Families’ age old tradition and unleash a sexuality he’d never given rein to before.

I was lucky enough to get to read this book early, and it’s wonderful. It’s a futuristic look into classes and how two people who stand on opposite sides of what they know and believe somehow manage to come together and find common ground. It’s beautifully written with well drawn characters, a solid plotline, and a smoking hot love story. I couldn’t put it down because I cared about these characters and wanted to know what was going to happen to them. Lauren is a gifted writer and this is one of her best.

Because I think everyone should read RELENTLESS, I’m going to give one lucky reader a chance to win the book today.

To be eligible to win RELENTLESS, tell me what you’ve read lately. I always love knowing what people are reading. I’ll draw a winner for RELENTLESS tomorrow.
