Reading Is Like Breathing

What I’m talking about is how important it is to read. As authors, we get so caught up in our own writing, our own deadlines, our own work, that oftentimes we forget to take time out to read.

One of the reasons I became a writer was because I love to read romance. I got caught up in romance when I was very young. In 6th grade I started reading the Dark Shadows books and was in awe of the dark romance on the page. Then when I was 17 I was introduced to historical romance via Kathleen Woodiwiss and The Flame and the Flower, and I was hooked

And I wanted to write, so I did.

To Do List and Things

Holiday weekends screw up my week. Now it’s Tuesday which means short week. Bleh.

So last week didn’t go too badly. Didn’t get everything done on my to do list (do I ever?) but I did ok. Did 12,000 words on A Demon Is Forever, not the 15K I wanted to do, but since we had the mother-in-law crisis over the weekend I’ll take the 12K.

I have to prepare for a workshop for my local RWA this coming weekend, which I havent’ done yet, so I really can’t put that off any longer. And write. I really need to finish the first draft of this POS. (Nora calls her first drafts a piece of shit. If she can call hers a piece of shit, so can I). :bat:

I did make the local paper on Sunday. The local RWA people put a piece in there about my upcoming workshop this Saturday. How cool! All about writing sex scenes! I’m sure the uber conservatives just loved seeing that. hehehe :hump:

So…on to the ‘to do’ list:

1. Put together workshop for Saturday

2. 10,000 words on A Demon Is Forever

Hey, it’s a short week. That’s all I’m doing.

What’s on your list this week?

Be Careful Out There This Weekend

So today we had to take my mother in law to the emergency room. She’s had an upper respiratory infection recently, went to the doctor a couple weeks ago, but generally has felt bad no doubt due to my father in law’s illness and death and not taking good care of herself the past 6 weeks or so. Anyway, last night she felt sick and passed out in the bathroom. Did she call us at 3 a.m. to come help her? Of course not. *rolls eyes*

She calls Charlie this morning and says she’s still a little dizzy and will he come sit with her today. Charlie says hell no, he’s taking her to the doctor. Duh. They end up at the local ER, who decide she should be admitted but they don’t admit patients with her health plan (my gripe about Medicare HMOs is for another blog for another day.) So they’re transfering her by ambulance to the Tulsa hospital that handles her insurance.

Fine. Off to Tulsa we go to meet the ambulance.

Holy crap. It’s busy there. Really damn busy. Like there are 4 ambulances piled up in the ER entrance and we can barely get through there to park. It’s chaos inside. We go right in and wait for mom to get a room. And wait. and wait. We head outside a few times. Still piled up with ambulances out there. One takes off, another drives in. I’m not kidding it was crazy there today. By the time we left, the ER waiting room was packed solid, and yes, there were still a horde of ambulances outside.

Holy moly. Is it a full moon or something? I dunno what’s going on this weekend, but they’re packing in the ER.

Mom’s in her room resting comfortably, a little dehydrated and her blood pressure is low. She’ll be fine, I’m sure.

I’m not too sure about everyone else. Y’all be careful out there. I felt really strange vibes seeing all those ambulances.
