Out Of The Darkness (Read An E-Book Week!)

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, Biker Dude and I co-wrote a couple books together.

This was one of them, and we had a great time doing it. OUT OF THE DARKNESS is a paranormal erotic romance available through Ellora’s Cave. Vampires, werewolves, a little menage, and just general fun (in the book, that is. Heh)

Blurb, Excerpt, and a chance to win this book after the jump (oh, and little secret about the cover :giggle: )

Blurb:

Harlee has lived as a human her entire life, working as a psychiatrist on a secret government project evaluating captured werewolves and vampires. Then one night two strangers jerk her from her bed, blindfold her and turn her world upside down. She is taken deep into the realm of lycans and vampires and told an unbelievable story—that she is the daughter of a forbidden union between a vampire and a werewolf and now possibly the future leader of both their clans.

She doesn’t believe them. Vampires and werewolves are the enemies of humans. She hangs onto her humanity, her one and only goal to escape from her sexy and enigmatic captors before she loses her heart and possibly her very soul.

The vampire Adrian’s and the lycan Duncan’s goals are entirely different—to mate with the fiery beauty and determine whether her dominant blood is vampire or werewolf. One merely desires her. One will claim her for all eternity.

But dark forces turn what begins as a search for identity into a struggle for survival.

EXCERPT: (Warning – Adult content ahead!)

The driving beat of the bass could be heard from the parking lot of the two-story club, a converted warehouse painted all black, even the windows. Only a red neon sign pointed out its entrance. Annmarie sauntered past the long line and up to the front door, dragging one fingernail over the cheek of the huge bouncer outside, who waved them in.

“Know people in all the right places?” Harlee asked.

Annmarie grinned. “Or all the wrong places.”

Harlee felt underdressed, the cool night air blowing underneath the tiny black stretchy miniskirt Annmarie had insisted she wear. And the little scrap of material covering only her pussy lips could in no way constitute underwear. She’d been scandalized when Annmarie took her shopping in the Dark Moon shopping complex that afternoon and picked out clothing and underthings that Harlee wouldn’t have purchased in a million years. But then again, Harlee hadn’t been the one doing the buying since she had no money, so she couldn’t be choosy. The belly-skimming silk halter top in blood red admittedly felt sexy and sensuous against her nipples, the breeze ruffling the material against the puckered buds, making them stand up noticeably.
Or at least Adrian and Duncan noticed. Flanked on either side of her as they escorted her through the throng of people waiting in line at the Blood and Guts, casting their gazes throughout the crowd as if an assassin lurked within the group.

Honestly, it wasn’t as if anyone knew who the hell she was. Even they didn’t know, so she had no idea what they were worried about. Though there was the matter of Stefan’s murder and the fact she was his daughter did put her in jeopardy.

Correction. They thought she was his daughter. But if they thought so, other vampires and lycans thought so too. In fact, Adrian had grumbled about it the entire way to the club, complaining they couldn’t protect her in a crowd like this. Annmarie brushed him off and told him Harlee had to learn about their ways and what better way to do that than to see them in action.

Whatever “action” meant. She’d been too afraid to ask.

Annmarie grabbed Harlee’s hand and dragged her forward, away from the heat of Adrian and Duncan’s sides. Harlee craned her neck to see them following, Duncan with an amused grin and Adrian with an annoyed glare. She couldn’t resist smiling at Adrian’s irritation.

The club was dark and it took awhile for her eyes to acclimate. The place was completely packed with wall-to-wall bodies. People constantly brushed against her as Annmarie dragged her around until she finally decided on a table between the long bar and the huge dance floor. Silvery lights overhead shimmered onto the mirror-like floor, reflecting like shots of lightning from floor to ceiling. The throng of bodies gyrating to the heavy beat of the music seemed to sparkle like a comet, all melded together into one streak of silvery glitter.

A waitress came over and Annmarie held up four fingers, then hollered, “Blood and Guts!” The waitress nodded and slipped away. Harlee hoped the drink was a euphemism for something else.
Once her eyes adjusted, she stared at the jaw-dropping scene on the dance floor. People weren’t just dancing, they were practically having sex! She’d never considered herself a prude, but holy hell, the amount of flesh revealed and the movements as couples clung to each other in passionate embraces had her face heating. Her gaze shot to her companions. Annmarie was rocking to the music, Duncan’s gaze was fixated on the action of the dancers, his nostrils flaring and his eyes darkening. Adrian was looking at her, his half-hooded eyes sexier than anything she’d witnessed on the dance floor.

Her visual acuity improved dramatically, which surprised her considering the dimly lit club. His eyes heated, swirls of amber weaving and glowing within the chocolate orbs. She felt the touch of his eyes as they roamed from her face to her neck, lingering at her throat. She felt her blood heat.

She hadn’t seem him change in any way, but she could well imagine his fangs sliding down, sharp points glittering like diamonds in the night, piercing the tender flesh of her neck. His lips would cover her skin, suckling the blood from her artery. She’d feel it pulsing throughout her body, rushing to give him the sustenance he craved. And in return, her body would begin pulsing too, only not in her neck. Her pussy vibrated, thrumming like a heartbeat deep in her womb, moistening and opening for an invasion she craved so deeply it hurt.

When the waitress returned with their drinks, she blinked, profoundly shocked by her wayward thoughts. She felt as thought she had just awakened from a deep sleep, haunting, sexual dreams clinging to her reality.

Whoa. That was beyond strange. Had he mesmerized her in some way? With his head now turned, she couldn’t see his face to gauge his reaction. Had he felt what she felt? Had he caused it or was it something else?

“Drink this,” Annmarie said, sliding a glass of red liquid in front of her. Harlee cast a dubious glance at Annmarie, who laughed and said, “It’s not blood, silly. Trust me.”

She took a sip, surprised at the sweet flavor. “Oh, this is good!”

“Told you. It’ll relax you a bit. You’re so wound up I can feel the tension across the table. You need to let go a little, honey.”

Let go? If she let go any more she’d probably straddle one of these men and fuck him right here in the club. She doubted anyone would even notice considering the activities going on around her. Everywhere she looked couples grappled in passion. Oh, they were still clothed…mostly.

Then again you could do a lot while still clothed, and she’d already glimpsed more than one man’s hand disappear down a woman’s blouse or into her pants, had seen the women’s eyes roll back in ecstasy as the men touched them intimately.

Eroticism and sensual play was the game here. And no one blinked or looked at these people like they were doing anything out of the ordinary.

“Vampires and lycans have a natural inclination toward sexual play, both intimately and in a group setting. We don’t attempt to hide our needs or desires. When we want someone, we’re open about it, taking what is offered. Both our men and women are very satisfied,” Adrian said.

Whispered, actually, his warm, spicy breath sailing across her cheek. When he brushed her hair away from her neck, she shivered and tensed. Her nipples hardened and she was grateful for the darkness. Though when she moved away to look at his face, he was staring at her breasts.

“You think I can’t see in the dark?”

She shivered again, this time from a primal heat that coiled deep in her belly and flamed outward, rocketing her senses into awareness of the man sitting beside her.
