Dare To Love Releases!

DARE TO LOVE, my contemporary romance from Samhain Publishing, is releasing in print!

daretolovemed1

A romantic game of chicken—and they’re both too stubborn to flinch.

Lucy Fairchild, lawyer and heiress to the Fairchild fortune, has just had the worst day of her life. Her father has found the perfect man for her to marry. Yes, she’s thirty and single, but that doesn’t give her father the right to run her life. She’ll choose her own husband—someday.

Jake Dalton is struggling to make his fledgling construction company a success. Ever mindful of his father’s derogatory comments that he’d never amount to anything, he’s spent his entire life trying to prove he’s not a failure.

From their first meeting on a construction site, verbal sparks fly. Their argument escalates into a dare for a date—and the game is on. Lucy thinks Jake is the perfect fake boyfriend to parade around in the hopes of getting her father off her back. Jake is amused by the chance to annoy both Lucy and her dad—he doesn’t intend to take the dating thing seriously.

But the heart is a fickle thing, and not above playing dirty. In their quest to prove something—to each other, or maybe to themselves—they find themselves building a case…for love.
And suddenly all the rules have changed.

Reviewers have said the following about DARE TO LOVE:

Joyfully Reviewed

Jaci Burton is a fantastic storyteller and Dare to Love keeps you glued to your seat from the very beginning. I read this all in one sitting – I could not put it down. The characters are so real and believable. Lucy’s initial reaction to Jake is charming and funny. They both struggle with their own issues of insecurity and together they discover a lot about themselves. I am Joyfully Recommending Dare to Love and it is definitely one for the keeper shelf.

I’m Ready For Re-Run Season

Those who know me and know me well know I’m a compulsive TV watcher. I watch a LOT of television. And by the time May rolls around, I’m just flat out tired of juggling the DVR. Frankly, I’m ready for rerun season.

Take last night for example. American Idol and The Biggest Loser were on at the same time, and then I run American Idol overtime so I can catch the last part because it always runs long, and The Biggest Loser runs for 2 hours. But then The Mentalist comes on. So at some point there are 3 shows running simultaneously. And my DVR can only tape two shows at at time. And I can’t even watch the Dancing With The Stars results show because that would be another show running in the same time period. Conflict! Ugh.

Wednesdays we have America’s Next Top Model competing with the American Idol results show and Life, which fortunately has already had it’s season finale so no conflict there.

And then there’s Thursday nights with Survivor and CSI and Grey’s Anatomy. :sigh:

We won’t even get into Monday nights. Thankfully the new season of The Bachelor doesn’t start until mid-May, otherwise I’d be DVR shuffling on that night too.

And I didn’t list some of the other shows I watch. I know, it’s a mystery how I get books written, isn’t it? :giggle:

Home & Garden

So Biker Dude & I were out and about Saturday morning and happened to notice that there was a home and garden show at the local expo center. We stopped in.

Oh my. Beautiful garden landscapes and trees and flowers and bushes. So we bought. A BUNCH of stuff. Mainly bushes for the spot next to the garage wall, which has laid barren for over a year and desperately needed new landscaping.

I also found a couple quirky things that caught my eye, like this windchime:

chimes1

It makes a beautiful sound, and, unlike the last windchime that hung there, is not glass. Really. I live in Oklahoma, where like the song, the wind really does sweep down the plain–often at 50 mph. Glass wind chimes? Never again.

And then I saw this wrought iron hummingbird. Omg. I have mad love for it and also bought one for my mother-in-law for Mother’s Day:

Then came the landscaping. I’m so happy with how it turned out. I wish I’d taken pics of how it looked before. It was dirt. And weeds. And nothing else. We dug up all the weeds, tilled the ground, laid down a sheet to keep out the weeds, then planted the bushes and put down the rock. Ugh,my back and legs are killing me! But it’s so pretty and so much better than dirt, huh?

Still a lot of work to be done in the yard. But hey, it’s a start! And I do love playing in the dirt. :giggle:

This ‘n That

I’m reworking a synopsis for a proposal. And I’m still on deadline for a book. Busy busy busy.

Today I’m at the Writeminded Blog talking about How We Read. Come see me!

I went to the post office yesterday! I hate the post office, hate going to the post office, hate mailing packages. But it’s part of what I have to do. Anyway, if I owe you a prize, it’s on the way. Or at least it will be soon, because I have so many packages to mail I have to do this in two trips. So your package was either mailed yesterday or it will be by the end of the week. Hang in there! And thanks for your patience!

It’s Earth Day!

Today is Earth Day, the day we should be thinking about our planet and what we do as individuals and as a collective to preserve it.

I haven’t always been the type of consumer to recycle or think about what I can do personally to preserve and protect our planet’s natural resources. But I do now. Global warming is a fact that we can’t ignore, and we have to do whatever we can to minimize its effects.

You may think one person can’t make a difference, but even small things can have a large impact. Here’s a few:

1) Wash your laundry in cold water. I was one of those people who thought all whites and sheets and towels just had to be washed in hot water to kill germs and make them clean. Um no. I use cold water for all my laundry now, and just use a nonchlorine bleaching product in the wash. My whites are white as can be and my towels smell fresh.

2) Use recyclable bags at the grocery store. You can buy them cheaply and you won’t have guilt over stuffing a landfill with plastic and paper. And hey, if you’ve been to a ton of romance conferences like I have, you have a billion canvas bags. They’re great for groceries. :giggle:

3) Keep your vehicle maintained. If you have to drive, proper maintenance such as replacing air filters, regular changing of the oil, doing tune ups and maintaining accurate tire pressure improves the fuel economy of your vehicle and and saves your environment. No, really, it does.

4) Recycle, recycle, recycle. It’s simple to find out where your local recycling center is, and then buy a couple big plastic trash cans and start saving your cans and plastic bottles and paper. You’d be amazed what is a renewable resource. The less we toss in the landfill, the better for our planet.

And finally, ebooks! There are so many books available as ebooks now, including mainstream books. So why not invest in a great ebook reader, and think about going paperless? Think about all those awesome trees you’re preserving?

All of my books are available as ebooks via either my publishers like Samhain Publishing and Ellora’s Cave, or via sites like Amazon Kindle or Fictionwise , Sony or Books On Board. Even Random House which publishes my Demon Hunter series has my books available as ebooks. There’s no excuse not to go paperless. Do it for your environment.

And Happy Earth Day! Go plant a tree today.

Releasing May 1st

Hey I have a new book releasing May 1st! Actually, you may already be able to find it via online bookstores or even at the bookstore, so let me know if you see it when you’re out and about or shopping online.

Note: This is not an erotic romance. It’s a contemporary romance and one of my favorites, about a construction worker and an attorney who think they’re all wrong for each other. I love this book. Okay, I say that about all of them, don’t I? :giggle:
