This and That….

There are currently like 9000 blackbirds sitting in my pear trees. They’re loud and annoying as hell. I want them gone. There’s a ton of crap under my trees now, and I feel like I’m in a Hitchcock movie when they spread out all over my property. :hide: Why can’t they go live in someone else’s freakin trees? No wonder our next door neighbor cut down his pear trees. Smart guy.

My vacation is over. I had to do edits on Show Me, my July Samhain release. And galleys have arrived for Hunting the Demon, so I have to go through that this weekend. Oh well. The vacation was nice while I had it.

Writing Vacation Progress….or Lack Thereof

So as I mentioned last week, I had finished a book and turned it in, and I’m taking off until April 1st before I start another book. I was bound and determined to rest, relax, recharge the old brain batteries that had been drained after more than a year and a half of nonstop writing.

I thought I’d report in on how that was going. Uh, not so well. The damn muse apparently hasn’t figured out what the word relax means. She won’t shut down. Now I have spent a lot of time blog hopping, doing a little reading, doing a lot of watching tv, spending time with biker dude and just brainless stuff, but the muse? She’s annoying the crap out of me. She wants to dig into the next demon hunters book and I won’t let her. Not until April 1st, dammit. So what does she do to me? She’s opening old proposals, and fiddling with old, old books that we aren’t even contracted to write. WTF? She needs to leave me the hell alone for the rest of this week. I’m supposed to be recharging my batteries.

I need to feed her some Xanax or something. Send her to Tahiti. Loan her out to some writer whose own muse has fled and needs some inspiration. The bitch is killing me.

Anyone want an annoying as hell muse for a week? I don’t need her back until April 1st. She’s very persistent.

Guest Blogger Shannon Stacey

I’m pleased to have a guest - Shannon Stacey, author of the fabulous Devlin Group series. I asked Shan to do a little Q&A about the Devlin Group, mainly because I’m madly in love with the series, and the second book releases on Tuesday from Samhain publishing. If you haven’t read the first book, 72 Hours, get it now in preparation for the release of On the Edge this week. I’ve read both. If you like action, adventure, danger, tension, hot men and dangerous women (or is it dangerous men and hot women?) Either way…the books freakin rock!

And for every one who posts a comment, you’re entered for a chance to win a download of ON THE EDGE. So comment! :giggle:. I’ll draw a winner Monday night. (Thanks for offering up the prize, Shan!)

Thursday Thirteen #19

Thirteen Reasons I Admire Biker Dude

For those who don’t know, Biker Dude is my husband Charlie. :charlie:

We’ve been married for 5 years. This is a second marriage for both of us. I have two sons from my first marriage, both grown and living in another state. Charlie has a teen daughter and he shares custody with his ex. There’s a bit of background for you.

Now here are the reasons I admire him:

1. He’ll drop whatever he’s doing if any one of his family or friends need help. For as long as they need the help.

2. His unconditional love for his daughter. He’s a very tough guy who doesn’t often show his emotions, but he adores his daughter.

3. The way he treats my sons, just like they’re his own, the way he talks to them on the phone, the way he shares their triumphs and sorrows. There is no separation of family. They’re just as much his boys as they are mine. I love this about him.

4. The way he can work with his hands to build something or fix something. Raworrr, that’s so sexy!

5. He’s not a wimp. He’s not afraid of hard work, or of getting dirty or sweating or working his ass off.

6. He holds my head up when I’m sick. I mean really really sick. Bodily functions don’t faze him. You have to love a man who’ll get into the trenches with you when it’s really gross. Know what I mean?

7. He doesn’t hold a grudge. I’ve seen him fiercely angry (at me and at other people). Five minutes after it’s over, it’s over. And I mean forever. He’ll never throw something back at you a year later.

8. He’s a man of honor and integrity. He doesn’t lie. I trust him 100%. It’s an amazing feeling having a man like that in my life.

9. He fought in a war (Vietnam), doesn’t talk about it, doesn’t brag about it, doesn’t whine about it. He just did his thing and that’s it.

10. He never brags on his intelligence, which is quite impressive. He has a high IQ but never touts it publicly. (I just did :giggle:)

11. He knows math. Really really well (This probably goes with #10). Now since I suck at Math, I think anyone who can do complex formulas in their head is a freakin genius. So I admire the hell out of his ability to do what I call ā€˜math thingies’.

12. He has vicious tendonitis in his right arm, but he’ll gladly give me a 20 minute backrub, or massage my neck and shoulders, even though I know it hurts him.

13. He loves me unconditionally, puts up with my moodiness, crankiness, hysteria about deadlines, angsts, whining, bitching, etc etc etc about my writing career. Putting up with me is NOT easy, but he does it. And he says he loves me. Can you imagine?

So….What Have I Been Doing? And What Will I Be Doing?

I’ve been working. Finished up my Samhain novella, Show Me :cheer: And I finished it early, which means I get an entire week and a half off before I have to dive into the next Demon Hunters book. Yippie Ki Yayyy! :boobie:

Which means I’m taking the next week and a half off writing. Now this is practically unheard of for me. I’ve been writing almost nonstop for about a year and a half now. One book on top of another on top of another without a break, because of deadlines. I’m toast, braindead, damn tired. I can’t begin to tell you how much I’m looking forward to this. (I just hope to God galleys don’t arrive in the mail within the next week and a half).

What to do with my time off?

I’ve got ARCs :neener:. I’ve got Sydney Croft’s Riding the Storm, Lara Adrian’s Kiss of Crimson, Meljean Brook’s Demon Moon…..oh the list goes on…. :sasmokin:

I’m spending the next week and a half reading. And doing some work in my garden which, trust me, really really needs it.

And now that the weather’s turned warmer, Biker Dude wants to ride. :charlie:
