Off to Reno tomorrow morning where hopefully I will not get toilet paper stuck to my shoe, tuck my dress in my underwear, throw up, fall down, get spinach in my teeth or otherwise make myself memorable in any way.
I’m excited.
Then I get to fly to LA to see my sons and my granddaughter. The really fun part *g*
See you all on August 2nd. If I have time, I’ll post the goings on.
Try to miss me!
Smooches!

Packing for a trip is never easy for me. Packing for a business trip is a nightmare because there are ‘professional’ clothes involved. Vacation is easy. Jeans, shorts, sundresses, swimsuits. Piece of cake. Business trip involves suits, coordinating tops and underwear, shoes that go with every outfit, jewelry, yada yada yada. Nightmare city and extra luggage. The list is endless.
Along comes Charlie, my husband, who’s accompanying me on this trip. He makes out his list last night. Jeans, polo shirts, shorts, t-shirts, socks, underwear, swim trunks, boots, shoes, jacket, toiletries. Done. Yes, that would be his packing list for a business trip too, since he’s in the construction industry.
I hate him.
Why is it so much easier for him than me? Why can’t I just pack my jeans and a blazer, my cute camisoles, trendy sparkly shoes and call it good enough? Why do I have to have dresses, peasant skirts, short skirts, power suits, coordinating blouses and all the matching shoes and jewelry that go with them? Why do I have to have 3 suitcases to his 1/4 of a suitcase?
It simply isn’t fair.
Off to coordinate my ensembles.

But Betsy’s “life” takes an interesting turn at a baby shower for her wicked stepmother, who lets it slip that Betsy has a long-last half sister. Now twenty years old, this woman just so happens to be the devil’s daughter…and destined to rule the world.

Yes, Mel, this is for you.
Sometimes, you write and write on something, and it just doesn’t feel quite right.
And you ask people to read it.
People you trust.
And if they’re really close to you and don’t want to hurt your feelings, they’ll tell you it’s ‘fine.’
I hate that word. “Fine.” What the hell does “Fine” mean?
To me it means “Your writing is dreck but I know you’re teetering on the edge of blowing a major stress gasket so if I tell you what you’ve spent 3 weeks writing sucks the big one you’ll throw an aneuyrsm, so I’m going to use ‘fine’.”
Don’t ever tell me something I wrote is ‘fine. (Yes, Charlie, I’m talking to you *g*)
Anyway, was working on this new book. Now I like these characters, even though they spent the better part of 3 weeks beating the living hell out of each other. Still, something didn’t gel with this book and I couldn’t put my finger on it. Maybe it was my new migraine medication. *g*
So I sent it out to a few people to read, including hubby, the red pen slasher man, who, admittedly, was a bit busy and pronounced it ‘fine. No comment there.
Then along comes Mel, who input a few of her glorious suggestions, inserted some flowing prose, and basically showed me that what I had written was pure and utter….
C-R-A-P
Thank you, Mel. Not many people will tell you what you write is crap. I will forever love the person who has the guts to tell me it’s crap. And yes, it’s crap. I love that word. No, she didn’t come right out and tell me it was crap cuz that’s not her style. But she showed me where it sucked. And believe me, it sucks.
And now my muse is in Fiji.
Bitch.

Vamps, Werewolves….what’s not to love? *g*
CRIMSON CITY by Liz Maverick(Love Spell, July 2005)
Once, this was the City of Angels. The angels are no longer in charge. From the extravagant appetites of the vampire world above, to the gritty defiance of the werewolves below, the specter of darkness lives around every corner, the hope of paradise in every heart. All walk freely with humans in a tentative peace, but to live in Los Angeles is to balance on the edge of a knife. One woman knows better than most that death lurks here in nights of bliss or hails of UV bullets. She’s about to be tested, to taste true thirst. She’s about to regain the power she’s long been denied. And Fleur Dumont is about to meet the one man who may understand her: a tormented protector who’s lost his way and all he loved.Theirs is one tale of many. This is Crimson City, where desire meets danger and more than just the stars come out at night

Shannon made my blog match my redesigned website, and she even put my picture up (retouched to make me look 20 years younger, courtesy of Glamour Shots). And she EVEN put up the cover to my newest release. The woman rocks. Seriously.
No, I’m not allowed to touch my own blog template cuz I screw it up every time. Shan is my goddess of blogdom.
Oh and go wish my friend Melani Blazer a happy birthday today. I think she’s wishing for Orlando Bloom to show up at her front door, but don’t let her husband know that *g*

Hands On By Jaci Burton

Mark Whitman, freelance reporter, has just scored an easy assignment—write an article for Total Man Magazine about Lara McKenzie, sex educator and obvious expert on self-pleasure. He expects to find a bookish geek, not a red-hot redhead! When his one-time assignment turns into a request for a full-time job writing with Lara, Mark has to lie to Lara to convince her to co-author the articles. Soon they’re steaming up the sheets in the bedroom and on the pages of the magazine and Mark is in way over his head. The truth may set you free, but Mark’s afraid when Lara finds out the truth, he’ll lose not only the job of his dreams, but the woman he loves.

CARPE DEMON: Adventures of a Demon-Hunting Soccer Mom by Julie Kenner
(Berkley, July 2005)
Carpools. Crabgrass. Creatures from the depths of hell. Suburbia has its problems too…
Lots of women put their careers aside once the kids come along. Kate Connor, for instance, hasn’t hunted a demon in ages…
That must be why she missed the one wandering through the pet food aisle of the San Diablo Wal-Mart. Unfortunately, he managed to catch her attention an hour later-when he crashed into the Connor house, intent on killing her.
Now Kate has to clean up the mess in her kitchen, dispose of a dead demon, and pull together a dinner party that will get her husband elected to County Attorney-all without arousing her family’s suspicion. Worse yet, it seems the dead demon didn’t come alone. He was accompanied by a High Demon named Goramesh who, for some unknown reason, intends to kill off the entire population of San Diablo.
It’s time for Kate Connor to go back to work.

“I loved CARPE DEMON! It was great fun; wonderfully clever… ninety-nine percent of the wives and moms in the country will identify with this heroine. I mean, like who hasn’t had to battle demons between car-pools and play-dates?” — Jayne Ann Krentz, New York Times bestselling author of Falling Awake
“As if having a teenager and a toddler weren’t challenge enough, Kate Connor has other problems, too. Take kids to best friend’s house, check. Clean house for budding politician husband’s party, check. Kill the demon coming in through the window, check. Then hide the body and put on a little black dress…This book, as crammed with events as any suburban mom’s calendar, shows you what would happen if Buffy got married and kept her past a secret. It’s a hoot.” –Charlaine Harris, USA Today bestselling author of Dead to the World
“Smart, fast-paced, unique–a blend of sophistication and wit that has you laughing outloud!” –Christine Feehan, New York Times bestselling author of Oceans of Fire

Okay, so she isn’t really dead, but the book is finished and that means she’s as good as dead! Yes, that evil slut has finally gotten her way and Out of the Darkness has reached an end. Gawd, that was a tough book to write! Probably because it’s summer, we’re busy at work, I’m simultaneously working on proposals, and this book was co-written with my husband (who is no doubt muttering Poe dialogue in the background….nevermore, nevermore, nevermore *g*).
And of course the aforementioned “my heroine is a difficult slut” issue.
But it’s finished, a few tweaks here and there and it’s on to my editor’s desk. Now I can concentrate on getting that proposal finished for my agent, who probably thinks I’ve totally forgotten about it (believe me, I haven’t.) Hopefully by the time D gets back from vacation that’ll be sitting on her desk.
Then it’s on to working on my presentation for RWA (me? prepared? nevah *snicker*)
But at least the slut is out of my head for now.
Harlee: You forget that Annmarie is waiting for you to write the sequel to OUT OF THE DARKNESS. You think I’m a vicious slut, you just wait ’til she starts clamoring for HER story!
*groan*
tequila anyone?
